Privacy Policy

Night Sky Copilot (nightskycopilot.com) is operated by JBL Group LLC. It publishes aurora, meteor shower, and stargazing forecasts using publicly available space-weather and weather data. For anything in this policy, contact us at alerts@nightskycopilot.com.

Analytics. In production we use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate usage: which pages are visited, how visitors arrive, and general device and browser information. Google Analytics sets its own cookies and may derive an approximate location from your IP address. We use this only to understand what content is useful.

Email alerts (optional). If you subscribe, we store your email address, confirmation status, the location you chose (label, coordinates, and related geo fields), topic preferences (aurora and/or meteor), and delivery/unsubscribe tokens needed to send mail and honor opt-outs. We use Resend to deliver messages. You can unsubscribe from any alert email.

Sighting reports (optional).If you tap “I see it” or “saw nothing,” we store the report type, approximate coordinates for the forecast location, a timestamp, and a salted hash of your IP for rate limiting. We do not store your raw IP address.

Server logs. Like most websites, our host may retain short-lived request logs (IP, user agent, path, time) for reliability and abuse prevention.

We do not require accounts to browse the site. We do not sell personal information. We do not use advertising pixels or cross-site ad trackers. Precise location is only used when you choose a place for a forecast or alert, or when a sighting is tied to a location page you are already viewing.

Forecast data comes from public sources such as NOAA SWPC and Open-Meteo. Hosting is on Vercel; alert data is stored in Supabase Postgres; email is sent via Resend; analytics is via Google Analytics when configured. Each provider processes data under its own terms for the purpose of running this service.

Alert contacts remain until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Sighting reports age out of the public UI after a short window but may remain in our database for analysis and abuse prevention. You can clear cookies and site data through your browser settings at any time.

To correct or delete alert-related data, unsubscribe via any alert email or contact us at the address below.

The site is a general-audience information service and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

The site is operated from the United States and data is processed there. By using the site you understand that your information (such as analytics or alert data) is processed in the United States.

If our practices change, we will update this page and its effective date. The current version always lives at nightskycopilot.com/privacy.
